This is very unlike me but such is life when it gets busy-- And today kind of puts that into perspective a little for me, although it shouldn't have to.
It's been tough for me this past week, coming up on this day, and I'm not quite sure why. I should be happy and counting my blessings- and I am! believe me - but part of me still hasn't dealt with it in a sense- but I'm sure that will happen one of these years whether I want to or not. As for Mark, since he has no real recollection of the actual accident, today he was with Josh, Jeff and our neighbors fishing on the Stanislaus River. I had to pretend he wasn't there all day...on a river. I'm a wimp....
http://cbs13.com/local/American.River.Drowning.2.482792.html
http://www.brentwoodpress.com/article.cfm?add=2&articleID=17535

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/SLz7WhTYOmI/AAAAAAAAAOo/s3dm6YwLLA8/s400/images_sizedimage_247015640.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5241340430667758178" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/SLz7WzGSHJI/AAAAAAAAAOw/W3bX5OzbipM/s400/Allan.bmp" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5241340435444669586" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/SLz7XHhLTBI/AAAAAAAAAO4/0fdsbcnp96o/s400/2007.12.08+031.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5241340440926178322" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/SLz7XQKtyDI/AAAAAAAAAPA/aBGnUC6MsAY/s400/2007.12.08+030.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5241340443247888434" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/SL0CzeVerqI/AAAAAAAAAPI/1fhHeUepMSM/s320/Photo-0129.jpeg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5241348624668864162" />

And so I'm at a loss for words, what do you say? I have to say, the stitches actually going in were easier than the stitches coming out! Seriously! Several of them were extremly tight and a few had skin overgrown on them. Poor guy, he cried and wanted to run! He had begged me previously to do it but I'm so glad we hadn't...I would have had to take him in after starting the whole procedure and admit to playing nurse! Looks kinda like a maternity suite, doesn't it? And no, my daughter on the bed is NOT having a baby (nor she better anytime soon, I think my brain would officially call it quits). But if you look on the "couch" to the right, there's a man laying there (and NO, he isn't in labor) and this is not a maternity suite. This is.....

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/SCaT9W3I5AI/AAAAAAAAAOI/L5vJUIosMAg/s400/2008.05.10+013.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5199005502163969026" />

If you haven't seen the insides of the new rooms at the Kaiser Hospital in Brentwood/Antioch, Mark can show you around! They are not only spacious, they are private AND have plasma screen T.V's with cable! (we don't have cable at home so we go to hospital's to watch). He felt he should keep his tour going of all emergency and hospital rooms, we'll soon be writing a book about how they each rate, just like hotel's. We are quite qualified with much experience, we feel it will help others out immensly in choosing which hospital they'd rather stay at and recieve optimal care.

If you aren't detecting sarcasm, well, then you need my life. haha. Yes, Mark really is in the hospital and NO, we aren't their just to watch TV. I would LOVE to tell you why he is there but we are honestly still trying to figure that one out. Kaiser hasn't changed much in the "doing" sense, so we are REALLY REALLY missing our Pittsburgh doctors right now! Mark is hopefully due to get out tomorrow morning(a deal he talked the doctors into) granted he keeps food down with no accompanying pain. He will do remaining tests on an out patient basis if he does get out. Oh, and why we went in? Mark started having pains a few days ago(much like the ones back in June when things started to go south again) but at about 2am Friday morning it became extreme, he started running a fever, he threw up, and I took him in. He's gotten LOTS of pain meds (dilodid, his fav.) and now he's dying to get out since they aren't doing anything. Same old story...so, the offer is out there...anyone want to trade lives with me? Huh, huh? Just for one day?! J/K I honestly wouldn't for the world. I would just like to go to bed...so...Good night!

PS! I almost forgot! After several months of job searching with no luck whatsoever, I finally got one(!!!) and started on Thursday...only to call in sick on Friday(the day Mark went in), and got a call on Friday from another company for an interview. Isn't life ironic? Don't ya think?
PPSS HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll be sharing hospital food with Mark, aren't we SOOOO romantic?!! Lol

Addendum to "Medical Blah-blah-blah's"

I figure I will always be playing catch up with these posts, never quite finishing. Lcuky for us, if you can call it that, we were at a rest stop somewhere in Tahoe and there was PLENTY of snow still on the ground. So I quickly grabbed a ziploc baggie--yes I keep them handy for unexpected things such as this--and stuffed it with the snow. Sierra's finger swelled up turning wonderful mood ring colors. I could tell her nail had taken the brunt, especially because it took her a minute to realize she had done it, then another minute because she thought the door was locked! I felt bad for her. Her nail finally fell off the other day :) And funny I didn't take a picture! That's my weirdness, tracking all the wonderful mishaps of our life! Well...here's the latest medical mishap:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/SBlKohWjM5I/AAAAAAAAANY/l13GUm7YKOI/s320/Image088.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5195265705156752274" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/SBlKpBWjM6I/AAAAAAAAANg/7pnoVlwX4Aw/s320/2008.04.30+001.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5195265713746686882" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/SBlKpBWjM7I/AAAAAAAAANo/7RQZJpsFNko/s320/Image086.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5195265713746686898" />

A baseball bat to the face, pending x-rays for a broken jaw, a permanent tooth shoved upward and 8 stitches later, Josh has decided he doesn't EVER want to play baseball...not that he was even playing in the first place! But we told him if it wasn't the bat, it would've been a golf club or a tennis racket! (both sports he is either playing or wanting to start). And as Josh goes, he freaks out at cotton swabs being dabbed on his cheek....so you can imagine the horror and upset he felt as he found out he had to get stitches. After wrapping him in a sheet and all of us holding him, they injected the numbing meds and after that Josh was fine! That is by far the biggest miracle for Josh, we are very very proud of him. And so, I'm exhausted. I didn't finish my last entry but that will be another day as usual. For now, I need to go lay out our bubble suits for tomorrow, haha.

He is NOT a Rocket Scientist...But He Thinks He Is!

I'm starting to realize how very good I am NOT at this blogging thing! I enjoy blogging to an extent (I finally admit it). I just wish I had the energy/time to keep it going. If I wasn't spending 4-6 hours a day job searching/posting, I might like my computer a little more :) So, here goes the update for the month...

I'm thinking Mark thinks he is a rocket scientist or that because he is a science teacher this somehow entitles him to "experiments"...yet they aren't ones that take place IN the classroom and sometimes he isn't even trying, it just happens! But he MUST do these things just the same. For instance, while camping with friends in March, Mark got wind that they had dry ice in their cooler. I'm sure you can see where this is going. Mark pulled out pieces of dry ice and got some empty water bottles because he wanted to try and make a dry ice bomb (and because I don't want other "children onlookers" to know, I'll leave out the "how-to" part). All the kids were surrounded and going nuts with anticipation. Not only did it work, IT WAS LOUD! And the kids LOVED it, couldn't wait for Mark to do another. Mind you, one of these kids IS a student of his...I thought it wasn't the best idea. But, Mark wanted to do another just to see if he could make it louder. Of course he suceeded. While it did detroy the bottle into twisted plastic, nothing catastrophic happened (although admittedly I thought something would!)
Later on Mark was cooking when suddenly the stove caught fire. The flame started creeping down the pipe towards the propane tank! While I blew furiously to try and keep the flame from making it's way down the pipe, Mark madly unscrewed the propane and the fire was out. So like I said, whether or not we plan these types of things, they happen to us. I couldn't help but think our campground could have become "a rocket". Here's some fun pics of the trip...we had a blast!!

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/SBYIixWjMxI/AAAAAAAAAMY/-f4FoE7o3w8/s200/2008.03.31+030.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5194348613674939154" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/SBYIjhWjMyI/AAAAAAAAAMg/OfzKNP9lYkU/s200/2008.03.31+020.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5194348626559841058" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/SBYIkBWjMzI/AAAAAAAAAMo/gdYi338qfYY/s200/2008.03.31+060.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5194348635149775666" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/SBYKMxWjM1I/AAAAAAAAAM4/OgtSoIF4GTk/s200/2008.03.31+046.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5194350434741072722" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/SBYKNhWjM2I/AAAAAAAAANA/Ja6pX75eEG0/s200/2008.03.31+040.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5194350447625974626" />

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/SBYJSRWjM0I/AAAAAAAAAMw/DBKzZbyEB8U/s400/Tree+huggers.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5194349429718725442" />

Well, I'll have to post the other things later...as usually, something came up! Yes, we've had the occasional follow up appointments, but nothing serious, which is great! It's funny that about mid February it hit both Mark and I at seperate times:

...something is missing? No...something is different....there's a void...no....it's not quite a void...what the heck is it?.....

And the lightbulb turned on. We haven't had any major hospital trips! Now, why this may sound silly, for us it took a few months of "regular life" to actually see what we were missing! Aaaahhh, the peacefulness! :)

But that kind of ended in the past 2 days. ALTHOUGH! I can say I'll take these events WAY over any of the others this summer...and really...I'm not complaining. It's actually nice to have different medical things. I think there's something wrong with me :)

Anyhoo, to the point. Last Friday I was handed a note from the elementary office saying Josh failed the hearing test, his left ear only. I wasn't surprised and even chuckled since he's had this hearing loss since before Kindergarten and somehow he slipped through (previous ear injury). Although, it makes me think that maybe in those past tests Josh just raised his hand randomly, not really sure what to do, and got most of "them" right. Kind of like I did in middle school taking tests on the scan trons and filling in the bubbles randomly, sometimes I actually did ok! Anyway, it would so be a Josh thing to do :) Ok, so back to the story. The school requires you to visit the doctor to resolve the matter and we were overdue for a visit for his ear anyway. Now, the last visit (before Kindergarten) I left steaming mad due to what I felt was the doctor brushing me off. He said there wasn't anything they could do yet, surgery would only be done when he was probably around 10 years old. Until then (!!!!) Josh wouldn't be able to submerge his head under water at all! And sadly but not surprising my irritation got the better of me and I said sarcastically to the doctor "So, your telling me I'm going to have the only 10 year old who doesn't know how to swim because of a hole in his ear drum?" I thought it was kind of ridiculous that he wouldn't do the surgery. Now, in hind sight I feel like an idiot because knowing Josh's demeanor, there is wisdom in that advice; it takes an extremly compliant child for the recovery. And as some know, Josh can't even handle a que-tip swabbing his cheek without 3 doctors holding him down and him screaming madly as if they were sticking needles in his eyes!! And the maintenance after the surgery is vital and I know Josh wouldn't do it.

Ok...I'm getting sidetracked again. SO this time..the doctor came in, examined, with Josh being the most bravest yet in history and not even crying(!!!WHOOHOO!!!!) and delivered what I was expecting to be the same old story. Not so much. Josh developed scar tissue, the hole is bigger(?) and possibly two of the small bones that vibrate may be damaged. The doctor said "You'll either need to have surgery or..." Josh was hanging on that or..."You will need to get a hearing aid..." and Josh interjected "Hearing aid! I just need that, no surgery!" And the doctor then finished saying "And then we'll do the surgery when he's a little older". Josh's whole body slumped and he gave me the sad/scared eyes. What's funny is this surgery could be YEARS away and he will worry and talk about it until the day it happens...which will DRIVE ME CRAZY! I do sound like an unsympathtic mom but in my slight defense Josh is quite the melodramatic kid which can be exhausting! So, we will have another hearing test next week and make some decisions, all the while I will be talking with Josh about ALL the pro's and con's of each. He seems to understand those things at least!

Ok, one more medical mishap :) It's quick. Last week Mark came in from the garage saying "Uh, hey Jen? I think I need stitches". Mark had stabbed his finger while making Josh's pinewood derby. After taping it up really good, he decide not to go in and it healed nicely. So, today ........ I'm in a HUGE hurry, just getting home from doing a sidejob .....we are supposed to be leaving for Reno in a few hours for my cousins wedding. But because of a misunderstanding among scouting leaders who were out backpacking with the scouts, Mark and I needed to find a 3rd person, drive out to the beginning of the backpacking trail where they left the cars, and move them to another city where they would be ending up tomorrow. It was 4:30pm, the park gates close around 7pm (it takes a little over an hour to get there) and we aren't packed to be leaving for our Reno trip whatsoever. And where did I find Mark when I got home? In the garage fiddling with Josh's RC airplane. I was very proud of myself keeping my composure (haha), not even freaking out that we still needed to find another driver! I went inside for 3 seconds, went back outside to ask Mark to start finishing up. And a few moments before, he had finally gotten the motor/prop started for the first time, and I started to say something. Mark turned around and looked at me with a pale face and said "Uh, Jen...I need to go to the ER, I need to get stiches." (WHAT?!?!?!?) So I calmly went over to look thinking he said this last time and he was fine. Hmm, not so much this time. He got his pinky in the way and it sliced it three times right down the side...it was gross! And because he's on blood thinners, it was bleeding all over the place. So I got him some paper towels and sent him off to the Urgent Care. Now, I did find 2 other people to help move the cars after frantically calling all around, we got there with about 2 minutes to spare before they closed the gates. Mark was luckier, he went in, they superglued it and he was home within an hour! Argh! Oh well, at least it wasn't a weeklong stay this time (ha ha). We can be grateful for that :)

A Blogger I am not...

I'm obviously not good at keeping this up as I would have wished. I'll blame it on my busy life (which it is) but as Mark loves to remind me, you can do anything if you MAKE THE TIME! He's right! But that still doesn't help me :)

And I would like to say that there was many profound things that took place these last few months...so far I can only think of a few. And that is why I am blogging today (which I really shouldn't be!). But if Mark can go fishing and bikeriding with the kids, shouldn't I be able to feel guilt free about sitting down to the computer for a bit instead of doing the 20 loads of laundry and piled stinking dishes that have been awaiting my hands? Oh forget it!...here it goes...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/R963oWmDqrI/AAAAAAAAAKo/OtgVb8Wtleg/s320/08.2.16+030.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5178778525410503346" />

So here is the first BIG event (in which I DO feel guilty about not sharing yet!). Josh was baptized WAY back on January 5th by Mark. While this is a very special occasion in any matter, this had even a greater meaning for our little family. Before leaving for Pennsylvania in October, Mark was most distraught over Josh's baptism. Not knowing if he would "make it", he didn't want to leave without taking care of this important event. But after a blessing, some prayers and Mark and I talking at length, Mark called his dad and my dad. He said in the event that he wasn't "here" for the baptism, he wanted his dad to baptize and my dad to confirm Josh. And so for obvious reasons, Mark being there preforming both was more than just a simple emotional response. It was an answer to prayers and hopes. It was an AMAZING day! And of course there was a "Mark" moment in all of it...Mark had cut his finger pretty badly earlier that same morning while hunting with Josh. So while getting himself and Josh dressed in WHITE, Mark's finger opened up and got ALL over Josh. So needless to say, Josh was already "wet" before entering that baptismal font! :)

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/R966tWmDqsI/AAAAAAAAAKw/xcW6M-Xaiks/s320/2008.03.17+094.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5178781909844732610" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/R966tmmDqtI/AAAAAAAAAK4/TFtbVTN8HfQ/s320/2008.03.17+095.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5178781914139699922" />

And the above pictures are another WONDERFUL and AMAZING event that took place just this past Saturday night. This is Allan Peterson and his family. If you look back in my blog archive, I've written about Allan before. He is the man that was first to come to our aid when Mark drowned, he spotted and pulled Mark from the river. We finally got to meet with him and his family at a restaurant where we sat and talked for a few hours. I so VERY much wish I could post the entirety of that evening, but it would be pages long. And what I will write won't even do justice to the overwelming emotions and the immense gratitude we feel and felt during and after that dinner. What do you say to the man that saved your life, the very reason our family was still sitting all together talking with him? He and his wife shared their side of the story, details that we wouldn't have known, and the effects it had on them. It made the entire situation for us come full circle. We share an unusual bond now, Allan having saved a life and Mark alive sitting in front of him. Allan and his wife are the most humble people whom we owe so much to, and yet we feel we will never be able to repay.

We have always felt and known that Heavenly Father had his hand in that day, but it continues to become more and more prevalent as the months are passing. Mark and I are always pondering the "reasoning" for why it all happened, what was the greater purpose for it, but we are slowly seeing little bits and pieces of "why and how" over the months. All of these "peices" are different, showing us aspects in our lives that are important and humble us as we feel extremely blessed; blessed for the trials we've gone through, trials we've seen others go through and triumphantly never give up, people who have helped us, and people who influenced, inspired or changed us without even knowing, and mostly to our Heavenly Father who keeps "opening" these doors. I think I've blabbered enough (as usual)...we should apologize for the continuous "mushy-ness" of our blogs! Good thing we space them out! haha. Well, until next time (and hopefully not as long as the last time)....

Why let Jenn have all the fun???

I'm not sure if anyone is still reading this anymore, but I pulled up Jen's blog site and she is still logged on. I can't pass up this opportunity to bug her a little by adding some things to it without her permission.
To be honest I really can't say anymore then Jen already has in all of her post. She has a way with words when it comes to summing up our families adventures and thanking everyone that has been there to help us.
Our family is back into the full swing of routine life: going to work, school, running errands, kids arguing and bickering constantly, etc...I can say with all seriousness, with all of the adventures we've had this past year; life has gotten routine and boring again. Whether that's good or bad I don't know. I often think that we were better, more faithful ,and stronger individuals/family when we were pushing through our journey this past year. I know for me when life gets as easy as it has been this past month, it's way too easy for me to forget about what is really important. I tell myself that I'm going to do more, be more and try harder. But, when it comes down to it, the human in me takes the path of least resistance. I envy those that have a "doers" mentality and take action on their goals and things they believe in. So many people have touched and blessed my family this past year, I shouldn't and don't want any time for myself; I want to be giving back and serving others. Some how though, and sadly, I have pushed off this desire to go and do plenty of things for myself(like hunting every Saturday).
One thing I have procrastinated doing, but need to take the time to do(as Jen already has)is thank everyone just one more time. The biggest blessing our Heavenly Father has given our family is the gift of loving and supportive family members, friends, and a community. I thank Heavenly Father everyday for this. I literally wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for all of these people. I don't want to forget anyone so I won't thank any individual person, but know that I am grateful for each and everyone of you.
Anyway, this has become a book instead of the short irritating post on Jen's blog that I wanted it to be. It must be the Zoloft, it makes me get in touch with my inner emotions.

Our life this December...

I kept trying to get around to doing a post...and then I'd get busy, always telling myself that "If you get this done, THEN I can go and post". Doing this blog gets me out of doing things I should be :) You'd think with all the time Mark and I are spending together, hanging out that there would be plenty of time...but somehow those hours fill up (and most the time I couldn't tell you with what!) Anyhoo, here's a few of the things that still make the title true..." our crazy-upside-downways life".

This is Sierra...with a round brush tangled all the way up to her scalp. It happened 15 minutes before we were supposed to leave to school...2 hours 15 minutes, clipping all the tines on the brush, using various household objects(ie. a paperclip) and 1/2 a bottle of pantene conditioner later, she was free!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/R3V3wZWJA1I/AAAAAAAAAIE/FYvNdkUxGCs/s200/122607+015.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5149153422289208146" />

The night before Josh's birthday, we went and bought 40 EXTRA LARGE cupcakes to take to his class(when we only needed 20, but Mark thought they might need extras of course). The next morning, Josh had an unspecific rash, oozing...and so he was ordered by the doc to stay home for the next few days. :( It was on his lip, nose, neck, stomach, legs, and under his eye which made it swell shut (FUN!) And to make it even MORE fun, he apparently developed a staff infection in it. The final guess of the rash is poison oak...NO MORE HUNTING!!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/R3V6M5WJA2I/AAAAAAAAAIM/1nhFWZfsWVA/s200/122607+073.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5149156110938735458" />

We finally decorated our "Charlie Brown" tree...sort of. We pulled out one box of ornaments, kids started to argue, we started to do it ourselves, got tired, and so it ended with some shiny balls, some lights and a star that was finally put on top 2 days before Christmas. Mark and I win the award for lazy parents! First, Mark had to fulfill a "promise" he made to the kids (which Josh wouldn't let him forget about, of course). He said he would take them out each by themselves for a hunt. I thought it was a great way to return, spending individual time with each kid after the long absence...during the next few Saturdays. Oh no, Mark couldn't wait! We returned from Pittsburgh on Friday(Nov. 30th) Mark took Sierra pheasant hunting on Tuesday. And they did pretty well...(so did Scout!)

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/R13O1KGlUOI/AAAAAAAAAGY/CUf_LWCAC3g/s200/2007.12.08+003.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5142493762167328994" />

Then he took Joshua duck hunting on Wednesday. They sat...and sat....and sat! Mark got about 13 shots and didn't hit anything. But JUST as they were about to leave, Mark took ONE last shot and got a golden eye. For Josh, it was all worth it.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/R13P3KGlUPI/AAAAAAAAAGg/GpAMjOXeRJ0/s200/2007.12.08+005.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5142494896038695154" />

And THEN we went hunting for our CHRISTMAS TREE! Saturday morning we set out for Apple Hill(Placerville). We thought we'd go for an "experience" this year rather than going to Target like we do every year. Not that there is anything wrong with Target, heck, we'll probably do that next year. But we thought it would be fun to go tromping through a big forest, looking for the PERFECT tree because you know, only the "perfect ones" are still out there in their original spots all nice and fresh, right? So we stopped at the first tree farm we saw that said "$35 dollars, any tree!" Who can beat that?! We all jumped out of the truck, dog and kids running through the mud, up the hills, down the hills. The guy gave us quick advice and a saw and we were one our way.

His advice was to look at the top 10 feet of the tree (the 40-50 foot trees that is!) and cut it down and chop off the bottom. It sounded so easy! 45 minutes later in 35 degree weather, getting headaches from looking up at trees with the sun in our eyes, we started to see why the trees were so cheap! You can't REALLY tell how good they are when you are staring straight up at them! You had to tromp up the hill to try and get a "level eye'd" look, but it's only from one side. After Josh slipping down a hillside in mud on his rear(Picture below bearing Josh's embarrassed stance with a mudbum), Scout running off after another dog over and over, Sierra trying to go pee in the cold because there wasn't a bathroom anywhere within miles(sorry, no picture!), we were laughing hysterically and having the adventure we usually have, CRAZINESS! :) But we got our tree! And after sawing it down let's just say it's fit to be a "Charlie Brown" Christmas tree. We like it anyways...because why? IT WAS ALL FOR THE EXPERIENCE!

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/R14MR6GlUUI/AAAAAAAAAHE/BIidrO66ouQ/s200/2007.12.08+009.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5142561326297862466" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/R14MSaGlUVI/AAAAAAAAAHM/SOQK1F-RNJw/s200/2007.12.08+011.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5142561334887797074" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/R14MTKGlUWI/AAAAAAAAAHU/_-1dGFdR2Mk/s200/2007.12.08+012.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5142561347772698978" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/R14MTqGlUXI/AAAAAAAAAHc/bKYtJsLSpAk/s200/2007.12.08+014.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5142561356362633586" />

I'll save the decorating pics for tomorrow...the finished product needs some fine pruning...although I think it's hopeless! :)

A stranger, a brother; Our hero's....

If you can't tell, I have a theme of thanking people who have impacted our lives....it's long overdue, so bare with me.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/R1cGeqGlUII/AAAAAAAAAFc/rvIDy8KHc7E/s320/Allan.bmp" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5140584623434453122" />

This is Allan. Allan is someone we have never formally met and by guessing, I only know a few things about him. I think he lives near Sacramento and that he has a wife/girlfriend(not sure) and child, and that's it. And yet being a stranger, you wouldn't know that he has impacted us by giving Mark another chance at life. In the picture, he is being awarded for that very reason.

This part is hard for me because I don't like to talk about the accident. As many know, September 3rd was a very traumatic day. And without going into too much detail, it happened up near Sacramento on the American River. Allan was at the river that day not too far down from us.

Allan was out in the river with a snorkel and mask, I'm assuming, enjoying Labor Day with his loved ones like we were. When the accident happened he was the first one that heard our screams and began searching under the water for Mark. At that moment, I ran up the river to find help and a cell phone and no joke, I was screaming and people just stared at me, they didn't move. I never did make sense of that but it made me realize how blessed we were to have had Allan their at that moment. And from second hand information, he was searching with his mask under water when he saw a white glimmer at the bottom, reached down and pulled Mark out. Allan is someone in our life who, just by being who he is, gave Mark a chance to still be here. Had he not been there, at that moment, in that spot, Mark wouldn't be on this earth. He deserves much more recognition than we can offer.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/R1cOzaGlUJI/AAAAAAAAAFk/AT9VBy0fAQY/s320/2007.06+211.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5140593776009760914" />

This is Paul. Paul is Mark's youngest brother. He was with us on that day also. He decided to go with us last minute. Before leaving to the river, Mark and Paul were chatting and Paul mentioned he had recently taken a CPR course. Mark can't remember why they were talking about this but obviously it's relevant. Paul luckily didn't witness the accident. I like to think that Heavenly Father saved him from witnessing this horrible accident because maybe it would have traumatized him in a way that would have made him feel he couldn't do what ended up saving Mark's life, but that is my personal feeling. After Allan pulled Mark from the river, Paul was just making his way back up to us(he had continued floating down earlier) and saw Allan. Mark didn't have a heartbeat and was not breathing. Paul started CPR on him which miraculously started his heart and breathing, although Mark didn't regain consciousness till 2 days later. Paul preforming the CPR ultimately saved his life.

I want them both to know that we were blessed that they were put in that place, at that time, in order for Sierra and Joshua to still have their dad. I don't know what else I can say other than Thank you...but it just doesn't seem enough.

Can't title this one

There are MANY MANY people we want and need to thank. Hopefully for the time being they know how thankful we are for them, we hope to repay you in some way. But, there are certain people that we often don't thank enough and can be taken for granted, we just automatically assume they know. They are the MOST important people in our lives. So here it goes.....

Mark and I couldn't have even begun to make it through this without our FAMILY and their unfailing support. I could go WAY back in years and try to encompass all the things that have been done but that would take 5 days and 50 blogs to get it all out, so I'll shorten it by starting with this summer(and it's still long!) Because hey, this summer has been one crazy ride...

When this all began, Mark and I were blessed to have our parents coming out several times, at different times and SOMETIMES simultaneously ALL summer long to help us out. They were here for days and then sometimes weeks extending over a month. Sometimes, they would barely drive into their garage two states away after having just left us only to get another "emergency call" to come straight back...and they didn't hesitate. Or they got a call that said "Get on a plane right now, I'll explain when you get here." And they were on the next plane out. Or they would get 4hours down the road, get the call and again, turn around without question. OR, they would pull into our driveway after a LONG 3 day drive, we'd hug, and then we'd drive straight to the hospital. They stayed without an expiration date; caring for Sierra and Josh, coming and going from the hospital, praying, cooking, cleaning, taking kids to doctor appointments, doing "the mountain" of laundry, running our errands, talking us through hard moments, making us laugh to distract us from those hard moments, attending soccer games, holding our hands, holding our kids hands, and most of all making us feel loved. You stood by us the entire time doing whatever you could to keep us going and made sure we were still standing when we felt numb. We have the best parents in the world and we couldn't have done it without them. Words will never completly say what we feel in our hearts.

Our siblings also have been amazing support in so many ways. There was babysitting of our kids, they would come in the middle of the night to give Mark yet another blessing, there were visits that helped him get through the boring times and painful times, there was the continuous phone calls from far away siblings concerned and caring which always gave Mark or myself a boost when we needed it most, there were those who let me "cry on their shoulder" on the phone in the middle of the night when I was scared, there were those who jumped on a plane to be at his side even though he couldn't remember it, there was the care and flight arranged for our kids without hesitation last minute, there was making our children a part of their family to help time go by faster while we were gone for an undetermined amount of time, AND....there was a lifesaving procedure preformed on Mark without hesitation...and it DID save his life. We have the best brothers and sisters in the world. Again, Words can never completly say what we feel in our hearts.

And there were the cousins, aunts, uncles, "second in-laws", and friends that we consider family that also supported and cared for us. They brought us clothes, food, entertained our kids, took care of Scout, stayed for hours in a waiting room and gave emotional support that will never be forgotten. If they couldn't be at his side, they called or e-mailed sharing their support and concern. We have the best extended family in the world. Words can never completly say what we feel in our hearts.

Hopefully each of you know how much you mean to us. Hopefully you know how grateful we are to have you as our parents, our brothers and sisters and our extended family. HOPEFULLY you know that we couldn't have done this without each individual one of YOU and that we LOVE each of you beyond words...because WORDS CAN NEVER COMPLETLY SAY WHAT WE FEEL IN OUR HEARTS...but at least we can try. We KNOW that we were carried by your prayers and thoughts, we are still humbled.

May each of you in turn be blessed and take the time to love your own families. As we have learned personally, don't take time for granted, each day is precious. I know it's cliche, but you have witnessed how through our life.

And most important of all it must be said again, to our parents; Cathy, Jack, Arlene and Michael. This journey was more difficult on you than anyone else, we know that. You made so many sacrifices, your heart ached, you withstood our grouchiness, you loved our kids and put up with THEIR grouchiness, :) you went to the ends of the earth for us. We want you to know that we took every single action, word and thought to heart, hopefully you didn't feel taken for granted. As Mark can never be serious and said with a goofy smile, "We'll repay you when WE take care of YOU by changing your diaper and wiping up your drool!" :) Ok, so that won't be enough I'm sure! But! We can keep telling and showing you we love and appreciate you. Heavenly Father blessed us with you... We love you so very much.

The End

California, HERE WE COME!!!

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/R0-lnty_HLI/AAAAAAAAAE4/nJIEVa0HzjA/s200/DSCN1051.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5138507801579953330" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/R0-lody_HMI/AAAAAAAAAFA/f0_qkKDw0no/s200/DSCN1050.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5138507814464855234" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/R0-loty_HNI/AAAAAAAAAFI/SpGzv6on-Rw/s200/DSCN1078.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5138507818759822546" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/R0-lpNy_HOI/AAAAAAAAAFQ/I0urgELhw6A/s200/DSCN1095.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5138507827349757154" />
It's all in the title! Yup, we are coming home, tomorrow to be exact! But don't tell Sierra and Josh...we are going to surprise them by picking them up from school :) (granted there are no delays!) This has been a wild journey. If you had told us a few months ago that we would be in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania hanging out with Mark's brother(Nathan) and wife(Danielle) I would have laughed my head off, let alone Mark having surgery that would change our lives, Mark drowning in a river and that we would spend 7 weeks without seeing our kids, I would call you absolutely crazy and that you need to see a shrink.

But here we are after 5 months and well...HERE WE ARE! We got to end our trip with a treat. Marks brother and wife drove out here, Nathan is doing interviews for his Residency. He set up an interview with the Childrens Hospital here in Pittsburgh(one of many interviews). When we found out, we honestly didn't think we would still be here! They arrived Saturday night and left Tuesday. During that time, we took a little trip to Kirtland Ohio where we toured some church historical sites. It was awesome. We were so happy to have them and be able to end our "visit" here on a good note. It was *almost* like a little vacation at the end...ALMOST! :) Today we spent our last few hours quickly running around saying goodbye to everyone we've met. We are so sad to depart in a sense...we have made a family here. We will miss them also. But we are SOOO EXCITED to see our kids and my dear mom!!! So, till next time.....(see some of you soon!)

Oh yah, about Mark...

After posting that last post, I forgot to mention the man I spend 24 hours, 7 days a week with. He's doing well actually! The best he's done in quite some time. He's managed to eat 2-3 meals each day now and is just barely starting to get some energy. Wednesday we had clinic which tends to take 4-5 hours but hey, do we have anyplace to be? They took him off of medications that Mark and I, by process of elimination, found were making Mark sick (the opposite of what they are supposed to do!) So he's REALLY starting to feel good. Every hour or so Mark would exclaim out of nowhere "Gosh! I feel so good...I'm not even naucious! Now, if it would just stay this way!" And he has! So another small triumph. Thursday we did go to Family House, it was one of the MOST MEMORALBE Thanksgivings Mark and I have ever had. When you are amongst others who are so sick, they can barely enjoy their turkey and are far away from their children and/or husbands, you get a whole bunch of mixed emotions. You feel you've developed a temporary family who shares the same stuggles, but joy that you have them there. There's sorrow for those who know they have many more Holidays to be spent there but yet there was an OVERWHELMING feeling of gratefullness that we could all be together and enjoy being ALIVE. And we had a wonderful apple pie at a doctors house that we met through the ward we have been attending here. It was wonderful to be with their family as well. There are many more thoughts I have jumbled in my head but I think I've been WAY too serious in my last 2 posts!:) So I'll share a few pics of recent and be done. OH! I forgot to mention that we will for sure be here another week or so, Mark has another test on Wednesday. Till next time...

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/R0kkVdy_HHI/AAAAAAAAAEY/IWQYNZeXf38/s200/DSCN1036.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5136676801187093618" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/R0kkWNy_HII/AAAAAAAAAEg/S50p1vtc3FQ/s200/DSCN1042.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5136676814071995522" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/R0kkWdy_HJI/AAAAAAAAAEo/NuBV3daUxCE/s200/DSCN1038.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5136676818366962834" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/R0kkWty_HKI/AAAAAAAAAEw/Vab4eKSPDBw/s200/DSCN1045.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5136676822661930146" />

Above: A boy hid around the corner while playing beautiful music during our feast. I don't know!

So I haven't been blogging about my kids. Maybe because being 3000 miles away I'm not in the middle of what they are doing so there isn't much to write, or maybe writing about them gets me all choked up because I miss them like crazy, or MAYBE writing about them will make them seem like they are fine without me and I don't want them to be! ORrr it's all three! So to face my missing void, here's the first several weeks of my kids lives without us, all in Utah, staying at my sisters house. (I'm not going to cry!) :) The first one though is our last family photo the night before the kids flew to Utah...I still have a hard time looking at it. We were afraid that if anything went wrong, this might have been our last.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/R0kaVdy_HGI/AAAAAAAAAEQ/gHxp-gF1RBc/s200/Photo-0129.jpeg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5136665806070815842" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/R0kU49y_G9I/AAAAAAAAADI/2ApBT4B26PA/s200/Image028.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5136659818886405074" />

This is Sierra and Josh about to fly BY THEMSELVES to Utah (yes, I am a paranoid parent). I didn't cry until they got on the plane though. They left Wed, Oct.10th. My kids aren't old enough to grow up yet...

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/R0kWKNy_G-I/AAAAAAAAADQ/WD_nyhu8oEo/s200/1010071118.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5136661214750776290" />

The pic above is my wonderful sis in Utah picking them up. She sent me a pic right away so I could actually "see" that they arrived in one piece! Now all the pics to follow are ones my sister sent to show us all the fun they were having. After getting the first few, Mark and I wondered if our kids would ever want to return home!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/R0kXfdy_G_I/AAAAAAAAADY/75eiKj68XnY/s200/1011071208.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5136662679334624242" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/R0kXfty_HAI/AAAAAAAAADg/ll_d8ZuiJN8/s200/1013071534.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5136662683629591554" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/R0kXf9y_HBI/AAAAAAAAADo/dMIOzYePQ8Q/s200/1013071654.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5136662687924558866" />

Above, they went rock climbing at Thanksgiving point, hung out with cousins and more cousins, and made marshmellow guns and had a big marshmellow war! Things change day to day. For instance, Mark was suppossed to have his endoscopy on Friday. They ended up not doing it because Mark's blood was too thin(he's on blood thinners). So we rescheduled for Monday. Mark has also been feeling naucious off and on everyday. It's hard for him to function when we feels like that. But Saturday, even though he didn't feel good, he really wanted to go to Gettysburgh. So, we did! He slept all 3 hours on the way there and back to help with his energy. It was awesome! What we didn't know was that it was the 144th anniversary of the Gettysburgh Address. They had a parade with everyone dressed in clothing from the time period and we ended the day listening to a brass band play Battle Hymn of the Republic on top of Little Round Top. It was an amazing short visit. It tired Mark out but he said it was well worth it. Sunday he slept the whole day feeling pretty badly. On Monday he went in for his endoscopy. They went down his throat, into his intestines with a scope. It was still a little swollen where they reconnected his intestine from the surgery. So they took a balloon and expanded it a little. Amazingly right after, Mark felt the best he had ever felt since the surgery. He hadn't had an appetite at all since the surgery until yesterday. We went out for a little bit afterwards grabbing a bite to eat together. Then this morning Mark woke up and threw up again...it was short lived. BUT! We think it may be one of the medications he is on. So he didn't take it this afternoon and now he is feeling good again. We were able to go and see a movie! We are crossing our fingers that it lasts!

We have clinic tomorrow morning, we are hoping that should give us a better timeline of when we get to go home, we are hoping for next week. We have been invited to have Thanksgiving at a place called "Family House". It's housing for patients/families who have to stay long term near the hospital. They have nurses on staff through the night too, it's an amazing place. We have met so many amazing people throughout our stay, several of them staying at Family House. Even though we are having a hard time with the thought of not being with our own children and family on Thanksgiving, we feel humbled and blessed to spend it with those who are far away from their families as well. Down the line, we hope to share some of the AMAZING stories/journies of those we have met here.

And lastly, if I don't get to write before Thursday, We are TRULY grateful for each of you and feel blessed to have such wonderful family and friends. Again, Mark and I both said that you start realizing who your true friends are when you go through such trials as these...thank you, thank you, thank you. We wouldn't be able to make it through without your support and prayers, we've been carried. May each of you be able to enjoy your Thanksgiving and be sure to let those you love know you are grateful for them! I guess that means I need to say... "WE LOVE YOU!" HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!! Till next time...

NO POST?!!

Ok, so I came to do another post and saw that my Sunday nights post didn't POST! I trust the internet too much I think :)

So the latest which is now late! Mark got out of the hospital Sunday night! He had his first meal, cream o' wheat(???) But that's what he wanted! He was so excited that he came home and slept! :) He was just glad to do it in his "own" bed, well, anywhere out of a hospital is all he cared about. Monday we slept in a little but then we went and got haircuts, walked a little in downtown and then went back to the hotel. Tuesday Mark was tired...and so was I so we slept in. It's weird to be able to sleep at any time...or when Mark takes a nap, I might as well too! What will we do without all these naps when we get back?! I guess have a life! :) Wednesday wasn't so good. We went to clinic (which is where you spend a LOT of time when you aren't in the hospital) While talking with our nurse coordinator Mark ran out and threw up. Poor guy. He has been nausious the last two days and sleeping through most of it. So tomorrow morning he will have an endoscopy and they will take a balloon and push open his intestine a little more to help food to go through easier. This evening though Mark is starting to feel better. He was able to eat dinner tonight. This stuff is normal for the most part, just means Mark's body is taking a little longer to adjust after the surgery. As they keep reminding us, Mark had major invasive surgery and it will take time to get back to normal, sometimes with hiccups. So we are doing well considering. Today it's been 5 weeks since we arrived here! Hopefully it'll only be another week or so till we go home! As Sierra and Josh said "We are crossing our fingers!" Till next time...

De-tubed, Un-tubed...whatever, HE'S HAPPY!

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/RzYQHotmaVI/AAAAAAAAACU/Biq9hO2yUTQ/s200/Image010.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5131306548809066834" />
Mark got his tube out of his nose!!! This momentus occation took place on Thursday evening but my internet doesn't always work (and may not again after this, I'm currently at the hotel). He whooped and hollered and was heard throughout the 12th north floor. And as we took a walk afterwardrs, you would of that he was Fonzy(sp?) from Happy Days or something. He was strutting his new look of no tubes and the nurses were saying "Hey! You got your tube out, YA!" and "OH, you look so happy!". He was famous for the night. Mark later remarked in his jokingly boy talk "See, if I hadn't whined and complained while it was in, then no one would have noticed me and congratulated me. I'm sure people get their tubes out and don't get reactions like that!" I'm sure they don't.... :)

But there is a short funny thing that led up to this moment of being de-tubed, which I'm sure those who know Mark won't be surprised. At 12:00 that day, the doctors came in and decided to do this little test by clamping the tube till 4:00pm(normally it continuously drains), and then drain it at 4:00 pm to see how much his stomach produced(and didn't go down into the intestines. In order for the tube to be finally removed, Marks body had to produce less than 200cc's of bile, at this point it should be going down into his intestines and passing through. So, Mark being desperate and thinking his body wouldn't pass this test (but REALLY wanted the tube out) went into his room at 3:45 and started to drain a little. He only got out 60cc's but didn't get out anymore...this was a problem because when the doctor would come in and get "nothing out" it would obviously look HIGHLY suspicious. The doctors had joked before hand that they would dust for prints to make sure Mark didn't alter the test any (haha). Obviously they know him well. So, just as Mark is cleaning up his evidence, he lucked out when his (laughing her head off) nurse stopped the doc before coming in and told him she had already drained it. The doc started laughing and thought she may be in on it too, but as he drained, he got a little (lucky Mark) and conceded that the tube could come out. He felt bad for Mark too so it worked out for all.

Well, now it's on to bigger tasks like drinking lots of fluids, eating solids and pooping! I know, graphic, but these are our little goals and triumphs that get us through the days and OUT OF THE HOSPITAL! :) Maybe I'll reward Mark with a little peice of candy when he does, haha. Until I get internet service again....Ta-ta for now!

Small steps, better outcomes

When someone says take small steps or be patient I know it is a virtue I have definatly not aquired! :) But through this experience I realized if I don't know the ending or future, I don't experience impatience. And maybe it's more because we've come this far that I'm wanting things to go correctly, that every precaution is taken so that the best ultimate outcome happens. But for Mark, this is not so! :) He wants the best, but boy is he impatient! And I can't blame him one bit, heck, it's not me sitting tethered to a bed because a large tube is in my nose...

I didn't write yesterday because it was a rough day. It wasn't that we got an bad news or bad test results, it was acually a good day for those things. But emotionally I think things started to set in. Yesterday marks two weeks since the surgery, and technically the recovery was supposed to be 7-10 days. And today it's been a month since we've seen the kids, and it's wearing on them as well. So we talked with the kids a lot last night and then Mark and I sat in a gazebo with the snow falling quietly on the glass ceiling, it was really calming. I know, how cheesy. But when you sit in a hospital bed, breathing hospital air, smelling hospital smells, etc. it's nice to step out and have a change of scenery.

Ok, enough of the mumbo jumbo. So they did another scan of his leg today to make sure the clot isn't moving or getting bigger. When Mark tried to ask the tech about the clot, all he offered up was "it's an unusual clot, not your normal leg clot."....and this is different from our previous encounters because? Marks body is anything but normal :) Mark is admitting a little bit that he is getting used to the tube in his nose...but he still tried to bed the doc to take it out! The doctor said it has to stay in at least a few more days. If we take small steps, the outcome will be better. So, we stopped asking when he thinks we will get out of the hospital. He also had another test done (2nd time) where Mark drank barium and they followed it to see how far it got going through his bowels. It went all the way through this time but it did show that the swelling hasn't completly gone away, so it's a day by day thing, but it's progress! And Mark's spirits are up today which is good. He's getting ancy to get out! That's a good thing, it means he's recovering! :) Well, that's about it. Still have the same factors as before just added in a few. This morning Mark's throat was horribly sore from the tube and having a hard time swallowing. He was trying really hard to not let it bother him but when you start choking on your own saliva because there isn't enough room for both, that's a little scary. But he kept saying "Mind over matter, mind over matter..." :) Talking is now VERY limited, saved mostly for the docs (how nice of him!) Some of the docs came in early and said the tube had to stay in his nose, Mark figured as much but still wasn't happy, he tried bargaining as usual. This morning Mark also had extreme pain in his calf. He had had pain on and off for the past few weeks and even though we had expressed concern to the nurses, they said it couldn't be a blood clot because it would be red, swollen and untouchable. Today it still wasn't red or swollen, but sure enough after an ultrasound of his leg, it was confirmed he has a blood clot there. My guess is that it's an old one and that was the docs guess as well.

So a few hours ago, the head honcho doctor came in and started rattling people's cages. He said Mark "was on too much of this med" and "Can someone give me one good reason he is getting this med?" and "NO MORE OF THIS MED!". It was really funny to watch. He made a plan, one that both Mark and I had been hoping for. Mark is having another test tomorrow (drinking barium and following it through with a CT scan). It will show if his intestine has started opening up yet. Then on Wed. or Thurs. the doc will take a scope and go down his throat and try and push through the swollen part. Hopefully this will help things along and Mark can start eating! Here's hoping! His fever is still sticking around, but today it went up a tad, but they still don't seemed alarmed. I think that's all the news, well, I hope it is! :) Sierra and Josh went back to school today and seemed to be happy to be back home. We are missing them terribly, it's been hard to be away but we know they are being taken good care of. Well, that's all...till next time....

Pics from 3 weeks ago

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/Ry8-rPl8yaI/AAAAAAAAABc/pgUaEi5OAOo/s200/DSCN0786.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5129387413239286178" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/Ry8-tfl8ybI/AAAAAAAAABk/m_OpnsmSdTg/s200/DSCN0814.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5129387451893991858" />

Still tubed

So, I started this blog...well, it doesn't take a genius to see how long ago. And things got unbelievably busy after that. Sad excuse I know. But, now that I am hanging out in a hospital room these days I thought of giving it another go. Why not?! It helps me journal AND I can update my WHOLE family without sending 20 text messages to say one paragraph. This is all thanks to my dad and my brother Mike for sending me a laptop. They offer free wireless here at the hospital but you have to have your own computer :)

So I'll get to the point of why I started this again! Mark is doing ok, yes, just ok. I would say great but that would indicate he's getting out tomorrow...and he's still trying to convince doctors of it anyway. Unfortunatly Mark had a tube put back down his throat, into his stomach, because he started throwing up the other day. It seems his bowels are still not working. He also has a fever that is somewhat hanging on as well even though he's been on antibiotics. To some of you this seems like old news but it's happening again. Of course Mark is bugged but he is trying to sleep his way through it. This is supposed to keep him from throwing up but he threw up around the tube anyway, that was scary. He also got a unit of blood today as well. The docs said he isn't loosing any, his bone marrow is just suppressed from the surgery so it isn't producing all the way yet. He is also on an IV suppliment called TPN. This is given when you are becoming malnutritioned and/or haven't eaten for a long period (or can't eat at all). He has lost a lot of weight so this is hopefully going to help him keep up some of his nutrition and muscle mass.
Today I set out in the VERY cold 45 degree's (can you tell I'm a wimpy Californian?)to 3 pharmacies hoping to find the exact throat lozenges that would help Mark's throat. That was my big outting for the day. But other than that, it amazes me how I keep busy with just him all day. Sierra and Josh are back in California with my mom. They are starting school tomorrow. They are excited to see all of their friends! Well, that's it for now. Sorry it's so long! Hopefully it'll be shorter :) That's it for now! Till next time...

Ahhhhh! Yesterday I wasn't home at all...I took pictures, but I was gone straight through! (mind you this isn't any different from other days, just different happenings) I worked in the morning, went straight to pick up Sierra and Josh from school, helped with an after-school popsicle fundraiser, traded cars with Mark, got gas, grabbed a snack for the kids at the grocery store, headed to Antioch for Sierra's doctor appointment, headed straight to Liberty High School for Mark's track meet, and then we all got home around 7:30pm where we ate, bathed the kids/put them in bed, and then Mark and I sat down for our traditional watching "24", meanwhile me dodging upstairs to throw in loads of laundry(still unfolded and waiting for the magical day they are done on their own!). Mark fell asleep through the whole show...he was all tuckered out!! Because you know, yelling at a bunch of 6th-8th graders who are supposed to be running takes a LOT of energy! haha. I'm proud of him for doing a great job...especially since no one else would do it! Anyhoo...here's my pic for yesterday...it's nothing special, just a reminder of my "maiden" days! (It's my maiden name on the truck (c; ) I saw it across the parking lot while I was at work, grabbed my camera and ran out...I'm sure I looked completly dorky rushing to take a picture of a big truck...oh well, no one knows that I'm going to be famous someday by some interesting picture I took that at the time was meaningless but later became monumental(sp?). "Riiiighhhht"(Cronk's voice). Ok, I'm going now. Hopefully I can post TODAY's pic by tonight when I get home late from work! So tired, that my muscles ache because I'm typing. I did have a story to tell.....ZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....I think I fell asleep. I'm posting my pic. of the day and going to bed (I'll have to write tomorrow!) My pic today is of some girls at work and I. It took us almost 20 times of jumping to actually get us all in the air and have the camera "click" at the right time....and on this one the girl's face who you can't see(who happens to be next to me) tangled her leg with mine and we came down hard on our knees. Good thing we got it on the last one, I couldn't move for a little while after that one(I'm old!) Well, I'm off to bed before my head hits the keyboard! Goodnight!

Day #3

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/Ri2LXTUIIrI/AAAAAAAAAAc/ydGdOUafmiw/s200/4.23.07+001.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5056851189044880050" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/Ri2LXzUIIsI/AAAAAAAAAAk/Lj86VwCLJwI/s200/4.22.07+010.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5056851197634814658" />
Monday's are always exhausting...if there was a day I could do without, it would be this one! It's the day I do the schedule for work on top of working. Which means I bring home work with me and nobody likes that! Anyone know of any good jobs out there? I'm looking!

Sierra was in a mood today, she started off in a bad mood and when I picked them up from school she started from where she left off of! Josh was just Josh, but he did take the opportunity for Sierra being an easy target for antagonizing! But I do have to say, as crazy as Monday's are (and I even start dreading them starting Sunday afternoons) today was one of my more easy going only because I was a little more on top of my game. It didn't stop my boss from finding things wrong or from people quitting...but it did make me happy that despite all that, I got to pick up my kids from school and actually be at home with them (unlike last year). So, today, I'm happy for that.

So my pics (I'm cheating and doing 2!) is Sierra's mood this morning...and tonight. Hopefully she'll be happier tomorrow!! :) I think I'll go sneak in her room after this and snuggle her...Till tomorrow!
~Jen

Day #2 Getting ready for church

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_wNf6EzQqzsQ/RixdHTUIIqI/AAAAAAAAAAU/zSeYT8RwD9o/s320/Copy+of+4.22.07+112.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5056518861655384738" />
The title says Day#2 but really, I started this sometime around 1am this morning. So I am actually doing a double-day, but who's paying attention anyway! I'm needing to do more for my own guilt riddled soul, but I do have a secret passion for writing!

So today I was getting ready for church, brushing my teeth, Mark in the shower next to me. He very non-chalantly says "Jen, hand me my toothbrush and the toothpaste, please". (????)

I obviously answered in my exagerrated tone "Uh, excuse me? Are you planning on scrubbing the shower floor?" (which is currently gross I might add, those "scrubbing bubble shower cleaners" don't work)

"No, I want to brush my teeth", he answers as if I should know and that he's been doing it all of our almost ten years of marriage.

"Since when do you brush your teeth in the shower?" I wait for the answer KNOWING this will turn into one of those dumb silly arguments because Mark really won't have a good reason but in his mind, he has to have one...it is a bit strange after all and Mark always has a good reason for everything he does.

Mark's reply, "I'm already in here, I might as well get it done and be done with it, save time."

(???? again) "Done? Save what time?" So now I'm intrigued and wanting to bug him further because I just think this is silly (and hindsight, it's dumb!) "Who brushes their teeth in the shower?"

Mark: "Everyone! Lots of people."

Jen: "Lots of people? What?! In all of ten years of marriage, you haven't brushed your teeth in the shower, yet today you are embarking on a new timesaving idea AND EVERYONE does it as well. You are very strange, you know that?"

He didn't reply...I started to laugh, mostly at myself for knowing that this is just a "Markism". He does this in other areas in life too, he cracks me up. Sometimes, of course, it is annoying or even costly, but mostly just funny. He loves to appear like he knows just what he's doing and that he's been doing/planning it all along. I guess you can say he's a man with confidence going boldly where EVERYONE has gone(in this case anyway), haha.

So to top it off I finished off with the clencher question (and again, I did this for my selfish amusement) "Sooooo, who do you know that brushes their teeth in the shower?"

Pause....."Uh, No one actually" as he chuckles at himself.

Ok, so I do remember WAY WAY back when, I had a roomate that brushed her teeth in the shower...but...that's the only person I knew. And I thought that was strange.(sorry to those in advance who brush their teeth in the shower!)

So my picture for the day is of Josh...silly Josh, always doing something goofy and not even knowing it! I took the picture trying to capture his shirt and the amazing button job he did. I teased him...there is something about getting ready in the morning for Josh; losing his shoes I placed right in front of him to put on, losing his socks after he finds the shoes, putting toothpaste on the toothbrush and stares at it forgetting it should go into his mouth to get the full effect (and you think I'm joking!) He is quite the character! So today, he had his shoes, socks, pants, (boxers that he begged for!) and his shirt ALL on! YEAH!...and then I saw his shirt and laughed...he still didn't get it when I pointed it out but had fun posing for the camera several times! OK, I'm done. GOODNIGHT! (Julie, I'm assuming you are fast asleep at this point but will be up shortly and read it as I'm going to sleep! haha)
PS The shirt is puckered at the bottom and quite tall at the top(he has the collar standing straight up)

Your results:
You are Spider-Man

Spider-Man

I have always wanted to and yet to date sadly I admit my children's lives aren't being recorded in a way I would feel adequate. So, here it is. I wanted to do something I hope would be easy, accessible, enjoyable, yadda yadda yada. I don't want to procrastinate any longer since all these wonderful sites make it TOO easy. So no more excuses for me....and then of course lets just see how often I add to it. Here we go with our "crazy up-side-down-ways" life I have so fittingly named this journal (I refuse to say blog, I think it's such a weird word, who thought of it anyway?) For what it's worth, and I'm sure very few will actually see this, ENJOY...

~Jen

PS I have already found something I don't like about this, it doesn't let me use exclamation points...something very much needed in life...I must find a substitute since I just deleted 7 of them, eeeer.
